The school's Professional Education Program is dedicated to providing journalists and communication professionals with the most up-to-date knowledge needed to succeed in an increasingly competitive market. Practical workshops and thought-provoking seminars offer advanced training in all areas taught in the school, including:

• Print, broadcast and online journalism
• Visual communications, including photography, multimedia and Web design
• Advertising, public relations and marketing

Programs feature J-school faculty as well as experts from leading media organizations, communications firms and research groups. Programs range from weeklong workshops to one-day seminars, usually offered on Fridays, in the state-of-the-art Freedom Forum Conference Center in Carroll Hall.

2010 Multimedia Bootcamp, May 23-28, 2010

This workshop is designed for professionals who want to explore the various forms of multimedia storytelling. The intensive, weeklong multimedia training program includes sessions on project planning, audio and video collection and editing, and Flash animation, production and workflow.

Custom training

The Professional Development program also can customize training sessions using School faculty in areas such as broadcast news, crisis communications and marketing. The school offers popular workshops in media relations and interviewing skills, which can include training both in the classroom and in our TV studio. Participants get tips on working with the media as well as on-camera practice in responding to reporters’ questions.

International

In addition to working with journalists and communications professional from North Carolina and the U.S., the program coordinates international programs for the school.
